moraitidis,-alexandros

Alexandros Moraitidis (Greek: Αλέξανδρος Μωραϊτίδης) is a writer from Skiathos, and cousin and contemporary of another celebrated writer from the island, Alexandros Papadiamantis (whose shallow-relief monument stands to the left of this monument). Moraitidis was born on 15 October 1850, studied and worked in Athens, becoming a monk under the name Andronicus not long before his death on 25 October 1929. His work encompasses many genres, showing lyricism, deep religious feeling, and love for Skiathos.
