Description

My first reaction to Eli Papadatos's poetry was that of a wanderer who, after hours in the desert stumbles upon a cool spring. I did not, at that point, stop to ponder how this had happened. I just drank the refreshing water and instantly knew it was pure... like these poems;  then George Seferis, the Greek Nobel Laureate, came to mind, who wrote to his friend George Katsimbalis: "For twenty years now, I had not stopped saying again and again things that are not even mine." Whatever influences Papadatos may have assimilated in his work, osmosis has smoothed out rough angles to a seamless end result!
From the Introduction
