Giorgos,or George Seferis (1900 – 1971), one of Greece's foremost poets of the 20th century, was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1963. Known also for his essays and diaries, Seferis had a distinguished diplomatic career from 1957 to 1962, which culminated in the position of Ambassador to Great Britain. Six Nights on the Acropolis, published posthumously in 1974, is his only completed novel.
